About Boston Dynamics Atlas

Boston Dynamics Atlas overview

The current electric Atlas is Boston Dynamics’ industrial humanoid platform. The company now publishes a detailed enterprise specification sheet rather than presenting Atlas only as a research demonstration.

What it is designed to do

Atlas is aimed at industrial material handling and workflows requiring high strength, broad reach and integration with enterprise systems. Operating modes include autonomous work, VR teleoperation and tablet control.

Hardware and movement

Boston Dynamics publishes 1.9 m height, 90 kg weight and 56 DoF. Atlas can handle 50 kg instant loads, 30 kg sustained loads and 20 kg one-handed loads. Battery life is four hours in normal use and two hours under heavy lifting.

AI, autonomy and control

Atlas includes 360° camera perception plus tactile fingers and palms. Boston Dynamics’ Orbit platform is intended to connect Atlas to MES/WMS systems and fleet operations.

Buying status

Atlas is an enterprise product sold through Boston Dynamics sales rather than a consumer retail channel.

Who should consider it?

Industrial organizations requiring a rugged high-capacity humanoid and enterprise integration.
