About Unitree R1

Unitree R1 overview

R1 is Unitree’s smaller and less expensive humanoid family, positioned around agile movement, multimodal voice/vision interaction and open development interfaces.

What it is designed to do

R1 is aimed at embodied-AI experimentation, interaction and movement rather than being sold as a finished autonomous domestic worker. EDU versions support broader secondary development and optional dexterous hands.

Hardware and movement

R1 stands about 123 cm tall. Published weights range from about 27 kg for R1 Air to 29 kg for R1/EDU. Configurations span 20 to 40 DoF, and Unitree publishes about one hour of battery life.

AI, autonomy and control

Unitree says R1 integrates a large multimodal model for voice and images. It includes microphone/speaker hardware, cameras and open interfaces on development-oriented configurations.

Buying status

Official pricing starts at US$4,900 for R1 Air and US$5,900 for R1, excluding tax and shipping. EDU pricing is by sales enquiry.

Who should consider it?

Particularly interesting to developers or institutions prioritizing cost and compact size over payload, endurance or turnkey autonomy.
